theres this gnat on my desk. a puny insignificant gnat crawling on my desk. im bored so i blow at it...and i came to realize that this gnat is a really fascinating creature. when i blow at it...it immediately stops crawling and anchors itself to my desk. when i stop...it waits a few seconds before resuming its directionless crawling. i blow again...and it stops again. repeat. whats really interesting is that regardless of what direction it was crawling in prior to my blowing at it...it would always turn and orient itself so that it would face me, and it would stand so that its head was raised as i blow on it. these are such seemingly meaningless details of gnats life that would typically go unnoticed under any other circumstances...yet they probably have extremely long and maybe complex histories that mean more to the gnat than we can imagine. it makes sense that the gnat would position itself this way instead of having its ass towards the wind. considering the weight distribution in a typical insect's body (more below the abdomen and less at the head)...it makes sense to have the head raised and facing the wind because the gnat becomes harder to blow over. interesting how natural selection can fine tune a species to this degree. i mean...do gnats that exhibit these behaviors have that much of an advantage over those that dont? i guess so. fascinating. i wonder if we'd see the same behavior with a larger sample size...if not...then i guess this thought was absolutely pointless.

anyway....tentative schedule.
